Because of its high association with BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene mutations, all women in Ontario who have been diagnosed with HGSC during their lifetime are eligible for genetic testing of the BRCA1or BRCA2 genes through the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. If you have been diagnosed with HGSC and have not previously been tested for inherited mutations in the BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes, ask your doctor about genetic testing and click to look at a list of genetic testing clinics inside and outside of Ontario.
If you have not been diagnosed with ovarian cancer yourself but a first-degree relative – your mother, sister or daughter – has ovarian cancer/HGSC, you may be eligible for genetic testing either through the Ministry of Health or the Prevent Ovarian Cancer Program. Go to Do I Qualify? to review our criteria and steps involved in determining if you are eligible.
